Powdered activated carbon can be applied in several ways: It can be added before precipitation or subsequently added before entering the fast filter. Both methods must guarantee the long time enough of contacting the activated carbon; Or more dosing points can be added; fluidized bed devices can also be used. In larger installations, the activated carbon can be placed in the dust control dry-adding system, or it can be placed in the carbon slurry of water and carbon, and the dosage is controlled between 5-50 mg/L.

The use of powdered activated carbon is usually one-off. Although the powdered activated carbon is cheap, if it is in big consumption, it is necessary to recycle considering economic and environmental issues. For example, an oxidation process can successfully regenerate a paste of activated sludge/powdered activated carbon.
