Classification Of Activated Carbon Used For Gas Masks

The activated carbon used for gas masks is mainly divided into ordinary activated carbon and impregnated activated carbon, which is optimized for different gases.

1. General activated carbon

Features: Through the physical adsorption effect, suitable for the adsorption of organic gas and steam.

Applicable gas: benzene, toluene, xylene, gasoline, carbon tetrachloride and other organic solvent vapor.

2. Impregnated activated carbon

Impregnated activated carbon underwent chemical treatment to enhance the adsorption capacity of specific gases. The common types include:

(1) Activated carbon impregnated with acid

Features: soaked with acidic substances (such as phosphoric acid) to enhance the adsorption of alkaline gas. Applicable gas: ammonia gas (NH ₃), amines and other alkaline gases. All gas phase combination adsorbed by activated carbon is called adsorbent; adsorbent alkali and hydrogen sulfide special activated carbon adsorbed mechanism: main adsorbent: ammonia, trimethylamine, index, ethyleneamine gas; hydrogen sulfide gas, dimethyl ether, methyl thiol, fecal odor. Organic gas: all kinds of exhaust gas flue gas desulfurization, governance containing nitrogen oxides, hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, arsenic trioxide, nitrogen trichloride, mercury, carbon, nitrogen compounds, three benzene (benzene, toluene and xylene) trichloroethylene, dioxin waste gas, governance odor, asphalt smoke, indoor formaldehyde, radioactive rare gases, radioactive iodine and methyl iodine.

(2) Activated carbon impregnated with Alkali

Features: with alkaline substances (such as sodium hydroxide) to enhance the adsorption of acid gas. Applicable gases: hydrogen sulfide (H ₂ S), chlorine gas (Cl ₂), sulfur dioxide (SO ₂) and other acidic gases.

AgCuMo + NH 3 (trimethylamine, indao, ethylenediamine) = R-AgCuMo- -NH + H2OR-AgCuMo + H2S (dimethythiamidine, methylthiol, fecal odor) = R-AgCuMo- -HS + H2O

(3) Activated carbon impregnated with metal

Features: Through the physical adsorption effect, suitable for the adsorption of organic gas and steam. Applicable gas: benzene, toluene, xylene, gasoline, carbon tetrachloride and other organic solvent vapor.

(4) Other special impregnated activated carbon

Iodine-impregnated activated carbon: used for adsorption of radioactive iodine (such as iodine-131).

Sulfur impregnated activated carbon: for mercury vapor.
