Toughened Carbon-Polymer Bipolar Plate
Main Product Description
Many conventional weldable flexible-graphite bipolar plates adopt carbon-fiber reinforcing networks, yet project planners are continuously seeking cost-balanced alternatives with robust chemical tolerance for long-duration electrochemical service. This composite bipolar plate leverages continuous basalt-fiber filaments sourced from natural volcanic rock as its internal reinforcing backbone, rather than carbon-fiber reinforcements.
Basalt fibers extend outward toward the plate's outer boundary during composite molding, forming two functionally-separated zones within a single monolithic substrate. The central graphite-rich domain serves as the primary electrochemically-active region, undertaking current conduction and core electrochemical reactions for cell operation. The surrounding peripheral band is enriched with thermoplastic polymer, creating weld-compatible borders suitable for thermal welding processes.
This dual-functional layout removes heavy reliance on auxiliary gaskets during stack assembly. Thermal welding along plate peripheries tightens module sealing and suppresses hydrogen cross-leakage risks. Thanks to basalt-fiber reinforcement, the composite maintains stable mechanical properties while bringing cost-optimized material performance compared to carbon-fiber-based counterparts, well-suited for large-scale energy-storage stack deployment.
We support custom adjustments for thickness, width and length to match client-specific stack layouts. Every production batch undergoes multi-item performance validation covering mechanical strength, gas barrier performance and conductive-zone conductivity before shipment.

FAQ
Q: What benefits does basalt-fiber reinforcement bring versus carbon-fiber versions?
A: Basalt fiber delivers competitive mechanical performance with better cost efficiency for large-volume projects, retaining the dual-zone weld-edge architecture for simplified stack sealing.
Q: Why is conductivity zero within the welding perimeter?
A: The outer perimeter is formulated with high thermoplastic content optimized for thermal welding; this section focuses on sealing performance instead of electrical conduction.
