Characteristics Of Activated Carbon As Catalyst And Catalyst Carrier

Activated carbon has electrical conductivity due to the graphite microcrystalline structure.

Activated carbon has electrical conductivity due to the graphite microcrystalline structure. Although the microcrystalline accumulation of activated carbon is disordered, its conductivity is limited, but just because of this disorder microcrystalline accumulation, constitute the diversity of the pore structure of the activated carbon, the better strength and the diversity of appearance. The relative density of activated carbon is generally around 1.0, so when we use activated carbon as a catalyst or catalyst carrier, it is easy to agitate in the solution medium. The main features are as follows:

1. Activated carbon has unique high specific surface, pore structure and microcrystalline structure, it determine its ability of excellent adsorption capacity as a catalyst, especially for adsorption of aromatic compounds such as benzene and toluene.

2. The rich surface chemical groups and their tunability of activated carbon can be tailored according to the requirements of catalytic active components or catalytic activity.

3. Activated carbon has good acid and alkali resistance. In the synthesis of fine chemicals using noble metals as a catalyst, activated carbon is widely used as a carrier.

4. The ion exchange capacity of activated carbon: Since there are various groups on the surface of activated carbon, activated carbon can exchange metal ions like ion exchange resin.
